Lighting

Lighting

Lighting is an important part of a city’s design, helping to improve safety and amenity, integrate sustainability, and build on a city’s lifestyle and character. Good lighting design complements the environment, improving the quality of public spaces, and is crucial aspect of supporting an evening economy.

The Lighting section of the Adelaide Design Manual provides strategic and technical guidance for the lighting of public areas in the City of Adelaide. This section discusses the guiding principles of lighting design, and approaches to implementing lighting with respect to safety, amenity, sustainability, and maintenance.

The Lighting section should be used in conjunction with the draft Adelaide Public Realm Lighting Guidelines available for download below.

The information contained in both of these sections is in draft form only. City of Adelaide is in the process of reviewing its lighting approach and use of LED technologies, and this will be finalised in late 2016.
