Furniture and Materials

Furniture and Materials

The Adelaide Design Manual provides guidance for the appropriate and consistent selection and use of furniture, fixtures and materials in the city. This approach complements the city’s rich history of ironwork, brickwork and masonry, and provides a framework for use of special and distinct furniture suites in significant city areas.

The Furniture and Materials section also provides guidance for the use and positioning of everyday city elements including bike racks, bollards, and seats, and how these should be placed to create a welcoming and consistent public realm that can be enjoyed by all ages and abilities.

This section sets out a process for testing new approaches to using materials and furniture, and guides the careful consideration and preservation of the heritage and character elements that enhance the authenticity of the City of Adelaide’s public spaces.
